Heavy fire on trawler in Thyborøn

The "Dorte Rixen - L 237" caught fire in Thyborøn in the late afteronon of Dec 15, 2015. The fire broke out in the crew area and quickly spread to all three decks and cargo compartment. There was an electrician on board when the fire started, but no one was injured. It took 20 firefighters from Lemvig until midnight to put the blaze out. The fire brigade had difficulty in dousing the flames in the hold because of intense heat. In the evening, smoke divers were sent into the fish hold where the insulation was burning. Additionally, three men from a local coastal rescue station were summoned who pumped all the extinguishing water into a gully. Besides foam, a lot of water was needed to tackle the fire. On Dec 17 at 1 a.m. the rescue forces left the scene. The reason for the fire may be toxic fumes. It broke out in a room that was freshly painted. A technical investigation was started the day after the fire.
