Cargo vessel disabled in Kiel Canal
Enroute Kaliningrad-Rotterdam the "Markborg" suffered engine damage during its transit of the Kiel Canal on Nov 28, 2013. Dense clouds of smoke emerged from the smoke stack which was remarked by the police in Rendsburg who raised alar. The ship was allowed to continue its westbound passage but was ordered to stop in the canal port of Brunsbüttel for repairs where it moored at 3.30 p.m. The ship An investigation was launched against the captain for causing environmental damage. Cargo ship in need of tug assistance due to engine failure
On Aug 30, 2012 around noon the "Markborg" suffered engine failure enroute Antwerp-Rotterdam and anchored off Hoek van Holland between the Maas-East buoy and the lower-light. After 2 hours it was decided that 2 tugs should be mobilised to tow the vessel into port. The ship was taken in tow by the "Smit Hudson" and "Fairplay 24" at 3.30 p.m. and after picking up the anchor the tugs towed the "Markborg" up river and arrived at 6:20 p.m. at the Botlek where the vessel was safely moored at the EBS European Bulk Services at 6.30 p.m. in the Laurens Port.
