Fire in engine room
In the evening of June 30, 2021, a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Dole Colombia' in the port of Wilmington, Philadelphia. The fire started on the Christina River, short time after the ship with 30 crew members on board had unmoored en route to Santa Marta. The crew sealed off the engine room and activated the CO2 fire suppression system and managed to put out the fire. The ship then berthed again. No injures were reported. The US Coast Guard (USCG), Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Wilmington Fire Department, and New Castle Fire Department responded after the vessel contacted USCG Sector Delaware Bay at around midnight. The USCG dispatched a boat from Station Philadelphia to establish a safety zone, while responders from Wilmington Fire Department, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Wilmington Fire Department and New Castle Fire Department worked to ensure the fire was contained. As of July 2, the vessel was still in port.
