Longliner sank off Mauritius
On April 30, 2019, at 5.15 a.m. the "Diego Star III" sank on the approaches of Port Louis in in position 20 09 07.8 S, 57 28 07.8 E. The longliner had caught fire on March 3 and was towed to a mooring at Les Salines where the fire burnt out. The superstructure was gutted by the blaze, also the hull showed signs of the intense heat which had developed inside. The ship was awainting its fate since. Fishing vessel in flames in Port Louis
The "Diego Star 3" caught fire at the fish quay of the port of Port Louis on March 3, 2019. The Mauritius Ports Authority and the fire brigade were dispatched to the fire in the engine room. The ship had returned from a fishing trip. There were no crew members on board. The trawler was towed in the waters of Les-Salines off the National Coast Guard (NCG) district. Two anchors were dropped at both ends of the vessel to stabilize it. Around 5 p.m. the NCG was still monitoring the situation aboard the "Diego Star 3" closely because it was still in flames.
