Barge run aground after suffering water ingress
On Sep 10, 2013, at 8 p.m. the "Amalia", 3225 ts (EU-No. 02333547; built 2011) suffered water ingress in the cabins on the Easter Scheldt river while enroute from Terneuzen to Werkendam. The tug "Zephyrus" and the KNRM-lifeboat "Jan van Engelenburg" came to assist and delivered a dewatering pump. As the ship was in danger of sinking, it was intentionally grounded on a sand bar at Stavenisse with the receding tide. Salvors of Multraship lightered a part of the cargo during the night hours, and in the morning of Sep 11 the vessel could be refloated and was escorted to Hansweert, from where it proceeded to Terneuzen in the run of Sep 11.
