Tanker out of control in cyclone
The anchors of Afcons' barge 'Support Station-3' gave way and it started drifting Northwest of Mumbai on May 17, 2021, in the cyclone Tauktae. Although the barge was clear of all Mumbai High operational installations, there were concerns in the evening that the 'Greatship Aditi' and the 'Desh Bhakt' had lost control and were drifting towards the oil rig 'Vivekanand-2' in the Panna oil field. The MRCC Mumbai coordinated with both ships. The propulsion could be restored and a total 45 crew onboard both vessels was safe.
Debts for Desh Bhakt paid
Two tankers, the "Desh Bhakt" and "Lag Jaxmi", are sailing to India’s west coast from Iran after the South Asian nation paid $1.4 million to partially clear debt on its purchases via the mediation of a Turkish lender. Both vessels are underway to Mangalore, carrying crude oil from Iran’s main crude-export terminal from Kharg Island since late last week. The "Desh Bhakt" is scheduled to reach Mangalore on Aug 11 and the "Jag Laxmi" on Aug 12. Indian refiners made the requested payments through Turkey’s state-run Halk Bankası.
