Tanker attacked four times within 24 hours
On Aug 8 and 9, 2024, Houthi terrorists attacked the 'Delta Blue' 45 nautical miles south of Yemen in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. On Aug 8 an RPG exploded in close proximity at 2.03 p.m. GMT. A bright light and loud noise were observed by the crew. The RPG was apparently fired from one of two small boats, each with four people on board. The master reported a further attack by missile at 10:45 p.m. GMT on Thursday, which exploded in close proximity to the vessel. A third attack followed in the early hours of Aug 9, when the ship was the subject of a suspicious approach by a small boat and an unmanned surface vessel, or sea drone, also 58 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah. The USV approached the vessel at rapid speed and guards on board displayed their weapons. When the USV continued to approach, the security team opened fire and was able to successfully destroy the weapon. A fourth attack has since been reported on the 'Delta Blue' on Aug 9 at 05:57 a.m. GMT with a missile landing nearby. Despite the string of attacks it suffered, the vessel and its crew are still reported to be safe and proceeding to the next port of call. There was no indication that the ship was connected to either the US, the UK or Israel, which are otherwise the Houthi militia's stated primary targets. In light of the attack, The British Navy's Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), urged all ships making the trip through the Red Harbor to be aware of any suspicious activity.
