Abandoned cruise ship sold to breakers

Thu Mar 17 08:38:33 CET 2022 Timsen

The 'Delphin', which has been laid up in the port of Rijeka for several years, has been sold at an auction on March 4, 2022, to the scrap dealer BMS Gemi in Aliaga. The ship has been abandoned near the shipyard Viktor Lenac in Rijeka since the bankruptcy of the last owner. She served as hotel ship for the US Navy in summer 2015. A planned operation in 2018 for the Argentinian Alteza Cruises did not materialize. The ship remained in Rijeka since December 2016. In order to recover at least a part of the money owed by the operator, the yard offered the ship at auction, using a closed letter system. The only bid came from a breaker which as recently recycled several cruise ships. The ship is expected in Aliaga start of April.
