Cargo ship ran aground during human trafficing
On Nov 10, 2016, at 1.30 a.m. the Turkish Coastguard remarked a suspicious ship off the Eceabat-district in the Dardanelles which was identified as the "Eniz" (in fact the "Delideniz"). It was requested to stop but ignored the order but instead headed towards the coast, where she ran aground onto the shore near Akbas port. When officers of the Coastguard boarded the vessel, they found 363 migrants, among them women and children as well as a toddler, aboard. Obviously the ship was used for human trafficing. The migrants were evacuated by rubber boats of the Coastguard and local fishermen and transferred aboard the patrol boats "TCSG 66“ and „TCSG 84“ which took them to Akbas. The evacuation started at 3 a.m. and was completed at 9.30 a.m. Two persons aboard the cargo ship were arrested, one, believed to be the captain, in handcuffs. They had taken the migrants aboard after they had been transported by bus from Istanbul and came to an old pier near the Gelibolu shipyard. They were sent to the Ayvacık Repatriation Center. The "Kurtarma 5" was sent to recover the grounded ship.
