Passenger ship damaged by drifting ark in Urk
A 70-m-replica of the Ark which was moored in the port of Urk broke lose in the storm Burglind on Jan 3, 2018, pulling bollards out of the quayside, and was pushed by wind forces of 11 Beaufort through the small port. It initially allided with the "De Zuiderzee" which suffered significant hull damage. The hull was dented on its whole length. Then the ark drifted further, slamming into floating piers with pleasure boats, causing a devastation. Seven people, among them five guests of the bible exhibition on board, had to be taken off by two lifeboats of the KNRM. By 8 p.m. the ark could be pulled back to its berth.
