De Tukker stuck on sandbar off Amble
The lifeboats "Four Boys“ and "Mildred Holcroft“were called to free a the "De Tukker" which ran aground on sandbanks off the Northumberland coast in the nioght of June 13, 2011 while attempting to enter Amble harbour. No-one was reported injured aboard youth training ship. The skipper of the "De Tukker" had miscalculated the tide and tried to enter port too early. Both of Amble's RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch. Due to the considerable size of the vessel, which created a significant obstacle and the rising wind which would create a swell, it was decided to tow the "De Tukker" off the sandbank and out to deeper water until the tide had risen and she could re-enter the harbour safely. The vessel did not suffer any major damage and is to due to remain in Amble for several days. Report with photo: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-13746647
