Five bulk carriers to be loaded with 120000 tons Ukrainian grain
Five bulk carriers, the 'Olga', 'Ida', 'Danny Boy', 'Forza Doria' and 'New Legacy', were heading to its Black Sea ports for loading, while three others recently have left with cargoes, as Kyiv seeks to overcome the Russian blockade of its commodity exports. The five vessels will be loaded with 120,000 tons of grain for Africa and Europe at the so-called ports of big Odesa, which include Chornomosk and Pivdennyi The ships were transiting the temporary corridor set up by the Ukrainian Navy, heading towards the ports, despite Russian threats to attack vessels after Moscow exited a United Nations and Turkey-brokered grain deal in the summer. Alternative trade routes via ports on the Danube river have been attacked by Kremlin drones. Outbound shipments of grain plunged to 1.75 million tons in September, from 3 million tons in August. The bulk carriers 'Azara', 'Ying Hao 01' and 'Eneida' were heading southwest, after leaving Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi with over 127,000 tons of agricultural products and iron ore.
Vessel detained after discharge of dirty ballast water
During the stay of the "Danny Boy" at Antalya, a pollution fine was imposed on the vessel by the local municipality environmental pollution prevention department, due to a breach of local regulations as per Marpol rules, on Dec 25, 2018. Subsequently, an investigation was launched by the local authority. As a result the vessel was found guilty for dirty ballast water discharge and a fine in the amount of 112.500 Dollars was imposed. The departure permission was cancelled by the port mster until the payment of the fine together with cleaning expenses. The ship sailed from Antalya on Dec 29 at 11.40 a.m. bound to Hereke.
