Grounding in Eo estuary

Sat Jul 16 16:50:21 CEST 2016 Timsen

On July 15, 2016, the "Daniel K.", loaded with 4,000 tons of paper pulp, ran aground in the Eo estuary at Figueras. The ship had loaded the cargo at the paper pulp factory Ence in Navia. Around 1.30 p.m. during manoevers in the navigation channel of Ribadeo, it got stuck in the sand. Despite attempts to get off, the ship finally had to wait for the next high tide, 12 hours later, when two tugs pulled the ship off. The salvage Operation started one hour before high tide at noon yesterday involving the "F. Jaureguizar" of the Gondán Figueirense shipyard and the "Sertosa 23", based in San Ciprian (Lugo). The salvage was not very complex," but went on for about three 45 minutes. At 1.45 p.m. the ship passed the bridge of Santos, bound to Ceuta, ETA July 18. The "Daniel K" joined the list of vessels stranded in the estuary, the last being the "Kelly C" on Aug 24, 2015.
