Reefer abandoned off China

Sat Nov 07 18:04:15 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Dafeng Mariner' issued a distress signal in the afternoon of Nov 7, 2020, off the Fujian Province in the Southern East China Sea. The reefer was en route from Mawei port to a yard in Zhejiang for repairs. The ship suffered water ingress in the cargo hold and the engine room and developed a portside list in rough weather conditions. It dropped anchor Southwest of the Matsu islands, expecting assistance. An SAR ship and an SAR boat responded, and it was decided to evacuate all 23 crew members, among them eight Indonesians and 15 Chinese. At 4 p.m. all of them were airlifted by two helicopters.
