Mehtane flash caused explosion
The CSL Group has confirmed that a methane flash occurred in a carpenter's workshop on board the 'CSL Kajika' on Dec 27 at 1.45 p.m. Two seafarers suffered minor burns to the face and hands while three others sustained superficial injuries. All five crew members were brought to a local hospital for assessment and treatment. One crew member has been discharged, three were expected to be released within the coming days and one will require additional treatment for a broken bone in the hand. Local authorities, the vessel Flag and class were notified, and Transport Canada has cleared the 'CSL Kajika' for discharge in Sydney where it docked on Dec 20 at 2.40 a.m. No structural damage to the vessel was reported and the root cause of the incident was under investigation. The ship departed from Sydney on Dec 31 at 11.20 p.m.
Explosion injured five
Five crew members aboard the CSL Kajika' were sent to hospital in Sydney, N.S., after being injured in an explosion on the ship on Dec 27, 2021. Two crew members suffered minor burns to their faces and hands, and three others sustained superficial injuries after methane ignited in a carpenter's workshop while the ship was at anchor. One crew member has been discharged from hospital and the others were expected to be released in the next few days. One will need further treatment for a broken bone. The ship did not incur any structural damage. The incident was under investigation and Transport Canada has cleared the vessel to return to operations. It remained stationary in port as of Dec 31. Scorpio Bulkers Agrees to Sell Two Kamsarmaxes
Monaco-based dry bulk shipping company Scorpio Bulkers has entered into agreements to sell two Kamsarmax vessels. The company said that the 2015-Chinese-built units were sold for USD 48 million to unaffiliated third parties. The vessels in question are the 82,000 dwt SBI Electra and 81,000 dwt SBI Flamenco. The bulkers would be delivered to their new owner in the second quarter of 2019.
