Grounded hydrofoil salvaged
A floating pontoon with a crane arrived from Augusta to recover the "Cris M." which had grounded on the rocks near the port of Lipari in the Monterosa area. The operation started at 6.30 a.m. on Sep 16, 2017, and was completed at 11.30 a.m. As soon as the hydrofoil was safely secured, the pontoon headed to Milazzo, where it will be disposed of in the area of the Liberty Lines. The hydrofoil had crashed onto the rocks on the evening of Sep 8 with 41 passengers and six crew members on board enroute to Salina island. It had sailed from Lipari around 8.30 p.m. Five passengers were injured, one of whom was resuscitated at the Papardo Hospital in Messina. A pregnant woman received first aid in Lipari. Emergecy nurses and anesthetists had been alerted to the scene. During the transfer of the wounded to the ambulances, an elder man fell off the gangway and banged his head in the port of Sottomonastero. He was also brought to the emergency room. A warrenty notice was issued to captain Salvatore Arena, 60, for negligence in navigation. The Barcelona attorney Pozzo di Gotto seized the vessel.
