Barges grounded after tug collision
After the 'Creole Crusader', along with two barges with heavy fuel oil, was in collision with the 'Jaco Odom' (MMSI: 367057420), pushing two empty barges and three barges of steel bars on Sep 17, 2022, at around 12.30 a.m. at mile marker 43,5 on the Port Allen route of the Gulf intracoastal waterway, two barges were run aground to avoid their sinking. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received notification and deployed the Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge personnel were notified and responded. All seven barges remained on scene, and a transfer of the oil was scheduled to take place Sunday. The waterway was closed at mile marker 43,5 to all vessel traffic until further notice. No injuries or pollution have been reported.
