Collision between cargo ships La Mattanza and Orava near Orsoy on River Rhine
It was 7.17 clock on July 15, as the Wesel fire department was notified of a collision between two ships on the Rhine at Orsoy. A Belgian ship had reported water ingress. What had happened? "In Orsoy the Orava was loaded with coal. While leaving the berth it collided with the La Mattanza." Both ships were beaten leak, says main fire chief Dieter Vorholt. But a impairment of vessel traffic on the Rhine has not taken place. Due to the on-board pumps both ships were able to continue their journey down the Rhine.
Barge stuck under Ijssel bridge
The "La Mattanza" ran aground under the Ijssel Bridge at Zutphen in the midday hours of June 3, 2014, causing a traffic interruption to and from Zutphen until 5.15 p.m. The barge was coming from Deventer with a load of heavy stones when it got stuck under the bridge. A relatively low water level may have contributed to the accident. The Dutch barge "Anna" from Cuyk pulled off the Belgian ship at 7.30 p.m. The traffic had already been resumed some time before, because the wheelhouse had already been out.
