Collision during sea trials
The "Cosco Shipping Leo", COSCO’s new ULCS on sea trial with 150 people on board, was in collision with the cargo m/v "Mercury Triumph" which was en route from Tobata to China with a cargo of steel, in the afternoon of March 29, 2018, in the East China Sea, about 50 miles south of Seogwipo in southern Jeju. The cargo ship suffered hull breaches from fore to aft, water ingress in the ballast tanks and became disabled, going adrift. The ULCS suffered damage to the starboard bow, including dented hull plating and a lost anchor. It was on trials since leaving Nantong on March 27.
