Emergency generator failure near Matane
The "Coriolis II" suffered a failure of its emergency generator on the St. Lawrence River, approximately 5,74 miles from Matane, Quebec, in position 48 2842.0 N, 68 3051.0 W, on Aug 31, 2019, at 2.35 p.m. The ship was enroute from Cap aux Meules to Rimouski where it was stationary on Sep 6.
Research ship stuck on uncharted shoal
Off Pointe-des-Monts, east of Baie-Comeau, the "Coriolis II" on May 16, 2012, ran onto an uncharted shoal where 25 metres of water depth were expected. At the time of the incident, 24 people were on board, 10 crew and 14 scientists. Transport Canada requested the ship to dock in Baie Comeau and wait for inspections. Divers were to inspect the hull on May 17, but initial findings did not suggest that there was a major damage. The mission was temporarily suspended, but may resume once all inspections are made, unless it is required that the ship has to be repaired in drydock in Riouski to undergo repairs.
