Four stowaways found on freighter in Kiel

Mon May 30 20:52:08 CEST 2022 Timsen

Four stowaways from Albania were found aboard the 'Coe Anna' by its crew on May 27, 2022, at around 10 a.m. in the Scheer Port of Kiel, where the vessel was loading a number of yachts. The crew remarked irregularities at a Swedish motor yacht which had been berthed at the Tiessen Quay in Kiel for some weeks and was bound to Southampton, UK. The stowaways had hidden inside this yacht. The captain of the cargo ship alerted the police, and the four fled and tried to hide. Initially one 24 year old man with an Albanian identity card was found. H had come from Bremen, where he met three other migrants who intended to get to England just like him. They had knowledge about the freighter which was en route from Kotka. While the vessel berthed at the North Jetty in Kiel on May 26, the four madee their way from Bremen to Kiel by train and climbed over the ISPS fence. They boarded the vessel over a rope and entered the yacht through an open hatch. When more yachts were loaded on May 27, they were remarked. The 24 year old migrant was taken to a refugee center in Neumünster.
