Captain drowned in lock of Main-Donau-Canal
The master of the "Luctor" drowned in the lock of Strullendorf, Bamberg Community, in the foremidday of June 4, 2012. When his ship on its way from Amsterdam to Regensburg had entered the lock chamber on its transit of the Main-Donau-Canal, he was about to fasten it when he fell into the water from the starboard side of the ship. His wife raised alarm, and the fire rescue, police and other rescue forces proceeded with 60 men. Divers started a search for the man and recovered his body from a water depth of seven metres. He was pronounced deas on scene. One diver was injured during the search and had himself to be saved from the lock. He was taken to hospital. The canal was closed until noon.
