Hull cracked in allision
When the 'CMA CGM Balboa' struck a dock at the port of Barranquilla, Colombia on Oct 2 at 12.40 a.m., no pollution or injuries were reported. The four tugs which were quickly dispatched to assist the ship in a joint response with tug operators, the local harbormaster and the Colombian Maritime Authority, freed the vessel at 11 a.m., and it was relocated to a safe berth. The hull was cracked and the ballast tanks began to fill with water. The 'CMA CGM' Balboa was still moored in Barranquilla as of Oct 4.. It remained unclear where the ship needed to be drydocked in Barranquilla or if will instead undergo repairs at its next port of call. On the early morning of Oct 2, 2024, the 'CMA CGMA Balboa', loaded with 2,720 tons of general cargo, lost control while maneuvering in the access channel of, the port of Barranquilla at kilometre 10 and allided with the COMPAS Port Facility. The Maritime Authority through the Maritime and River Traffic Control Station, activated the corresponding protocols and deployed four tugs to assist the vessel and transfer it to the destination Port Facility between 00:40 and 11:00 a.m., coordinated by the Barranquilla Harbour Master's Office with the support of pilots, the tugboat companies, the COMPAS port facility and the specialized personnel of the Colombian Maritime Authority.
