NGO tries to keep Clipper ship from Alang beach
The Indian environmental organization ToxicsWatch Alliance was trying to prevent that the "Clipper Concord" is scrapped at Alang beach in India due to the export of hazardous waste to non-OECD countries. After several years of service in Africa the "Clipper Concord" was after in such a bad condition that the Clipper Group chose to send the ship directly in India. ToxicsWatch Alliance has contacted the Indian environmental authorities who have promised to look into the matter. In addition, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN expert for human rights and hazardous substances, Baskut Tuncak, initiated an investigation. The Clipper Group CEO Kristian Morch said that the scrapping of the "Clipper Concord" was complying with all applicable regulations.
