CLIA refloated - no damages, no hull breaches found
Capesize bulk carrier CLIA was refloated at 0330 Taiwan time Aug 18 after being aground for 4 days, and brought to anchor near grounding site. 4 tugs, along with contracted salvage tug SALVAGE CHAMPION (IMO 7530444), were deployed in refloating. So far, no damages, no hull breaches found.

As of 0530 UTC Aug 17, capesize bulk carrier was still aground, with salvage tug SALVAGE CHAMPION (IMO 7530444) at her side. No hull breach or leak reported so far, ship is resting on a sandy bottom. Taiwan Maritime Authorities, however, underlined the necessity of refloating CLIA soonest possible, fearing hull cracks. It’s a typhoon season, and if new typhoon strikes Taiwan while CLIA is still aground, consequences may be disastrous.
