Ship refloated and towed to scrapyard

Fri Apr 03 10:01:14 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Clavigo' has been refloated and was taken to Tuzla anchorage. The repairs to the damage could not be planned, and due to the expensive repair budget and the vessel has been sold to Turkish breakers at Aliaga. The tug 'Kurtkulagi' was appointed to tow the vessel to an Aliaga srapyard. The towage operation commenced on Mar 31, after the necessary towage approval formalities were completed. The vessel arrived at the scrapyard on April 2 at 10 a.m. The second grounded vessel, the 'Dede', remains in a partly capsized condition on the breakwater at the outer part of the Tuzla shipyard area.

Underwater inspections revealed heavy damage

Fri Mar 06 10:03:26 CET 2020 Timsen

On March 4, underwater inspection were carried out at the 'Clavigo' and 'Dede' by diver teams. Fuel removal was to be carried out on both vessels. All cargo compartments, engine room, accommodation and ballast tanks suffered water ingress. The crews were interrogated by the Harbour Master incident investigation desk. A fine was imposed by the Harbour Master due to the breach of safe anchorage regulations. Both vessels remained partly capsized at the outer area of Tuzla shipyard breakwater.
