Fault in water jet caused allision

Wed Jun 21 11:45:00 CEST 2017 Timsen

A fault in the reverse function caused the accident of the "Cinderella" at Nacka beach on June 18 at 3.30 p.m. The ferry was now oin a yard in Stockholm for investigations and repairs, but Strömma hoped to have it back in service for the Midsummer weekend. However, the ship must first be approved by the Transport Board. When the accident occurred, the "Cinderella II" was on the way from Sandhamn to the Nybro Quay. The master did not get the ship's speed reduced when approaching Nacka, and the ship slammed into the quay at a speed of two to three knots due to an error in the water jet system in the reverse function that did not work properly. The company that has built the water jet will now review it. A dozen people were injured. Strömma has been in contact with emergency services around Stockholm and asked people who were aboard the "Cinderalla II" to contact the company. So far, two passengers have responded. The ferry left the repair facility in Stockholm again on June 22 at 6.30 p.m. bound to Vaxholm and meanwhile resumed the ferry schedule.

Allision at Nacka

Mon Jun 19 11:28:48 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Cinderella II" slammed into a quayside at Nacka, off Stockholm, on June 18, 2017, at 3.30 p.m. after she failed to reverse in time due to an engine failure. The ferry was enroute from Sandhamn to Strandvägen in Stockholm and failed to reverse in time. Nine persons were injured, having suffered burns, bone fractures, sores, cuts and other wounds and taken to hosital. Some were thrown around, one fell down a staircase. There were more than 230 people aboard at the time of the allision. Several ambulances have moved to the site. The Swedish Transport Agency was called to Nacka beach to conduct a survey of the "Cinderella II". Only three weeks ago the ship had been taken out of service for two weeks, getting one engine replaced.
