Relief after completition of lightering operation

Mon Jan 09 11:17:59 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Genmar Companions" is sitting higher in the water after being emptied of 54000 tonnes of oil by afternoon of Jan 7. There was a one-mile exclusion zone around the vessel for the duration of the lightering operation to give the tugs a safe working area. The ship is due into Belfast Harbour in the next few days for repairs. The State’s Representative (SOSREP) Maritime Salvage and Intervention, was delighted that the ship to ship transfer operation to the "BW Seine" has now been successfully completed. Everyone involved in the case for completing the job in difficult weather conditions was praised.
