Barge caused oil pollution in Regensburg
In the evening of Sep 4, 2018, the "Chateau Chalon", 1173 ts, caused a slight oil pollution on the Danube at the Protzenweiher Bridge in Regensburg. After an oil film was remarked, a helicopter took off to find the source. The fire brigade Regensburg and the volunteer forces from Weichs, Altstadt, Sallern and Wutzlhofen, the water police and the river authority and other relevant authorities responded to the pollution at 5.15 p.m. with on the whole 52 men. The police helicopter located the "Chateau Chalon" as the origin of the oil, which was just passing the lock in Regensburg. Samples were taken in the water and on board. The barge was ordererd to berth and surrounded by an oil boom, and it was detained. The oil escape was thought to have been caused by an engine damage. The operation was stopped with the fading light at 9 p.m. On Sep 5 methods were discussed how to seal the leak and carry out repairs.
