Cleared to leave Zakynthos
Russian freighter Chariot was cleared to leave Zakynthos, Greece, and left the port at around 2000 UTC July 10 2012. Obviously Greece authorities found the cargo documents satisfactory and released the vessel. Chariot resumed voyage from Ukraine to Bar, Montenegro, with some military cargo on board. Russian freighter with arms detained in Greece
Greece Coast Guard detained on July 9 2012 Russian cargo vessel Chariot after a routine inspection in Greece waters 5.8 nm south of Zakynthos port, Zakynthos Island, Ionian sea. Vessel was found to be carrying arms or ammunition bound for Bar, Montenegro. Chariot was directed to Zakynthos port anchorage for the proper check of all cargo documents. Munitions ship Chariot offloaded cargo in Syria
The ship offloaded near 60 tonnes of weapons and other dangerous materiel at Tartus port in Syria, reported Turkish newspapers. According to Turkish dailies Sabah and Hurriyet yesterday, the ship anchored off Iskenderun port in Turkey after offloading its “dangerous cargo” in Syria first. Turkish authorities studied the documents of the Chariot, finding that the ship left Limassol on January 11, arriving in Tartus port in Syria the following day, where it offloaded near 60 tonnes of weapons and other dangerous supplies. Hurriyet wrote that during the search of the ship at Iskenderun port, the captain confirmed that the ship offloaded 59,422 kg of weapons and other dangerous supplies.
