Coast Guard ship repatriated 31 migrants to Cuba

Thu May 23 11:01:36 CEST 2024 Timsen

The 'Paul Clark' has repatriated 31 migrants to Cuba on May 22, following multiple interdictions in the Florida Straits. The first interdiction occurred on the morning of May 17, when Sector Key West watchstanders received a report from the Coast Guard Cutter 'Walnut' of a migrant voyage 38 miles southwest of Marquesas, Florida. The 'Walnut' arrived on scene and safely embarked the migrants. The second interdiction occurred on the afternoon of May 17, after an Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew detected a migrant vessel 23 miles north of Matanzas, Cuba. Sector Key West watchstanders diverted the 'Walnut', which safely embarked the migrants. The final interdiction occurred on thze morning of May 18, when Sector Key West watchstanders received a report from a good Samaritan of a migrant venture 23 miles south of Plantation Key, Florida. 23 migrants repatriated in two operations

Wed May 15 09:32:45 CEST 2024 Timsen

The US Coast Guard intercepted two separate boats packed with Cuban migrants trying to set foot in Florida aboard tiny vessels ill-suited for the high seas. The first boat was spotted about 12 miles south of the Marquesas Keys near Key West on May 10, 2024, with 15 Cubans on board. On May 12, authorities in Key West were tipped off by a good Samaritan that another boat with migrants was in the ocean about 26 miles south of Marathon. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Valiant' plucked eight Cubans from that boat and sent them home. The crew of the 'Paul Clark' repatriated 23 migrants to Cuba on May 14. Coast Guard Cutter interdicted makeshift boat

Fri Feb 09 09:19:07 CET 2024 Timsen

The Coast Guard Cutter 'Donald Horsley' repatriated 28 migrants to the Dominican Republic on Feb 7, 2024, following the interdiction of an unlawful irregular migration voyage in the Mona Passage. The repatriated migrants included two other migrants from a separate case. The interdiction occurred after the aircrew of a Customs and Border Protection multi-role enforcement aircraft detected a grossly overloaded makeshift vessel in Mona Passage waters just off Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, in the night of Feb 4. The suspect vessel was transiting from the Dominican Republic in an attempt to enter the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan diverted the 'Paul Clark' to interdict the suspect vessel, while a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations unit, in collaboration with a Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action marine unit, also responded. Once on scene, both Coast Guard and the Customs and Border Protection surface units pursued the non-compliant vessel until the CBP crew successfully gained compliance and stopped the suspect vessel. Following the interdiction, the 'Paul Clark' safely embarked the migrants. The migrant group was later transferred to the 'Donald Horsley' for their repatriation to Dominican Republic.
