Coast Guard Cutter offloaded more than 12,100 pounds of cocaine
The crew of the 'Confidence' offloaded more than 12,100 pounds of cocaine worth more than $160 million in Miami on Sep 19, 2023. Coast Guard and partner agency crews interdicted the illegal drugs during nine separate cases in the international waters of the Caribbean Sea. The following assets and agencies were involved in the multiple interdictions: - USCG Cutter Confidence (WMEC 619); - USCG Cutter Valiant (WMEC 621); - USCG Tactical Law Enforcement Team – Pacific; - Royal Netherlands Navy Ship HNLMS 'Groningen (P843)'; - Royal British Navy Ship HMS 'Dauntless (D33)'; - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations (AMO) aircrew; - Joint Interagency Task Force South. Along with the illicit narcotics, 17 suspected smugglers were apprehended and were facing prosecution in federal courts by the Department of Justice. Coast Guard Cutter repatriated 67 Haitians
The 'Confidence' repatriated 67 Haitians to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, on June 15, 2022, after being stopped approximately 16 miles southeast of Great Inagua, Bahamas. The Coast Guard Cutter arrived on scene and reported the vessel was grossly overloaded, with torn sails and people waving for help. There were 67 men and women onboard including minors. Once aboard the 'Confidence', all migrants received food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.
Coast Guard Cutters interdicted overloaded sailing vessel
The Coast Guard Cutters 'Confidence' and 'Harriet Lane' interdicted a Haitian sailing vessel with 179 people aboard on Feb 27, 2022, approximately 30 miles off Andros Island, Bahamas. An Air Station Clearwater C-130 airplane had spotted the overloaded vessel at approximately 11 p.m., and reported it to the nearby cutters and command center watchstanders. The boat people were scheduled to be transferred to the Royal Bahamian Defense Force crews on March 1.
