Passenger who fell over board rescued

Mon Nov 25 13:35:34 CET 2024 Timsen

A passenger from the 'Ceuta Jet', a 37-year-old Spanish citizen, fell overboard on Nov 23, 2024, at 12.45 p.m. Officers from the Environmental Investigation and Protection Unit (EPRU) were conducting a patrol in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters (BGTW) on board the m/v 'Osprey'. Officers received a call from Gibraltar Port Authority’s Vessel Traffic Control Services (VTS) and requested to assist approximately 1.5 miles off Camp Bay. A joint SAR operation was launched between VTS and Spanish authorities. EPRU officers immediately went to the area, where a passing oil tanker had deployed an orange smoke distress signal, along with two lifebuoys. Strong winds and tides made it difficult for officers to clearly see the distress signal at sea, as well as the person. Port VTS officers coordinated the response by guiding EPRU officers to the scene of the casualty. On arrival, they saw the man in poor health in the water due to trauma caused by falling overboard. He was assisted on board the 'Osprey' and was assessed for his condition. An SAR vessel and an Algeciras pilot vessel attended the area shortly afterwards, as well as a Royal Gibraltar Police vessel. Once the individual was stabilised, he was assisted on the Algeciras pilot vessel and transferred to the El Saladillo area in Algeciras, where an ambulance was waiting.

Sailing cancelled due to technical trouble

Wed Feb 19 12:10:43 CET 2020 Timsen

The FRS shipping company suspended the departure of the 'Ceuta Jet' from Ceuta city to Algeciras on Feb 18, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. due to technical problems. The trouble occurred when passengers and vehicles had already embarked on the ferry. At 3.35 p.m., the company proceeded to disembark the passengers. The ship resumed its service after repairs at 6.15 p.m. and arrived in Algeciras at 7 p.m.

Engine room fire on ferry

Fri Feb 07 11:27:07 CET 2020 Timsen

Enroute from Ceuta to Algeciras the 'Ceuta Jet' suffered a small fire in the engine room on Feb 6 around noon. First it was thought that it could be a breakdown ofone of the engines of the ferry, but finally a fire has been detected which could be put out soon. The ship was not disabled and managed to reach the port of Algeciras without assistance, but it had to cancel some of its rotations for investigations. There have been no injuries. The next departure of the ‘Ceuta Jet’ was expected to be at 4.30 p.m from Algeciras.
