Disabled tug under tow to Tuzla

Tue Oct 08 13:18:15 CEST 2019 Timsen

The 'Catalkaya' (127 gt, built 1979), en route from Yalova to Inebolu, suffered an engine failure during the Istanbul Strait passage and dropped anchor at Büyükdere anchorage on Oct 5, 2019. After repairs could not be carried out by the crew, the tug 'Mehmetcik' was appointed to tow the vessel to Tuzla for repairs. After the completion of formalities, towage has commenced in the morning of Oct 7 with an ETA at Tuzla shipyard the following night to carry out permanent repairs. A new set of spare parts was provided by the owners. Repairs of the 'Catalkaya' have been completed in the shipyard in July. A sea trial performance test was carried out under the satisfaction of the class surveyor together with the owners superintendent. A new set of trading certificates was issued by the flag state authority. The vessel returned to inland water for further operation on July 5.
