After the "Holstentor" was moored, a dredger started to unload the gravel from the hold. It showed that by unknown reasons a gash was torn in the hull. Pumps kept the vessel afloat, oil booms were laid out around the berth. The rescue forces were on scene with 150 men.

In the evening of Oct 1, 2010, the "Holstentor" ran aground at the Ruthenstrom on the Elbe with a cargo of gravel and was in danger of splitting in two. The alarm was raised short past 6 p.m. Fire rescue from Drochtersen, Dornbusch and Stade assembled at Krautsand, 200 metres off the grounding site. Also the "Brunshausen" of the Stade fire rescue, was on scene. Oil booms were collected. However, the "Holstentor" refloated with the rising tide at 8 p.m.
