Penta-Ocean deploys dredger in Southeast Asia
Japanese dredging and construction company Penta-Ocean Construction (Penta-Ocean) has deployed a new-build dredger for its projects in Southeast Asia. The company announced it has taken delivery of Cassiopeia V, a suction dredger, from ASL Marine shipyard in Singapore. A suction dredger is a work barge utilised for dredging and reclamation. It digs into the seabed with cutters installed at the tip of the rudder, sucks up soil as well as seawater using dredging pump, and sends them to the discharging point through its pipelines. The company said, "To respond to the increasing construction demands of port facilities in Southeast Asia, we started construction of Cassiopeia V in September 2011, at the shipyard in Singapore." The ship, with a length of 123 m and breadth of 23 m, has a dredge pump power of 8,000 kilowatts, which is 1.4 times that of similar vessels in Japan. http://www.ihsmaritime360.com/article/16801/penta-ocean-deploys-dredger-in-southeast-asia
