Toddler medevaced from barge

Mon May 18 10:19:49 CEST 2015 Timsen

On May 16, 2015, the KNRM stations Marken and Lelystad was alerted by the Coastguard center Den Helder for a medevac from the "The Wave". A toddler of 15 months had fallend down the staircase from the wheelhouse. To avoid any risk to the safety a rescue operation was launched to bring the girl to the hospital. The "Valentijn" and "Hendrik Jacob" left Marken immediately and headed towards the barge which was north of the P1 buoy on the Marker Sea. The "Valentijn" was deployed to pick up medical personnel in the port of Uitdam. In quick succession the "Bert en Anneke Knape of the KNRM Lelystad and the "Hendrik Jacob" reached the barge. Crew members of both lifeboats were transferred aboard the barge. A nurse took care of the girl. Fortunately, she did not seem to have suffered serious injuries. After the "Valentijn" was on scene, in consultation with the medical staff it was decided to bring the girl to a hospital. An ambulance was called to Blocq van Kuffeler which was the nearest port. The girl was with her mother was then transferred aboard the "Valentijn" which headed towards the Marina. Both were then taken to the Flevo hospital.
