Search on for missing crew member called off
A crew member of the 'Casa Blanca' fell over board on the Scheldt near Kruibeke shortly after 4 p.m. on July 28, 2022. He got lost on the border of Kruibeke and Burcht while the ship sailed from the lock of Wintam in the direction of Antwerp. Near Kruibeke, the skipper suddenly noticed that there was no longer a trace of the sailor. The man appeared to have been knocked overboard. However, it was not clear where exactly this happened. The last contact with the sailor was at the Wintam lock. The captain moored his ship at the jetty of the company Xella (formerly Ytong) in Burcht. Substantial resources were immediately deployed to find the drowning person. Divers from the Waasland emergency zone and the Antwerp fire department searched the Scheldt. The shipping police and the pilotage service also arrived on the spot with boats, as did a helicopter from the federal police. The search was called off after two hours.
