Engine loss off Heligoland

On the deep water anchorage off Heligoland the "Palmerton" suffered an engine loss in the night of Jan 1, 2019. It dragged anchor in a raging storm. A boarding team of the German marine casualty command was sent to the ship aboard a helicopter of the Federal German Police. The ship was enroute from Hamburg to Palmerton. The emergency tug "Nordic" was inserted as On-Scene-Coordinator. In the foremidday of Jan 2 the "Palmerton" regained engine power and continued the voyage to Palmerton At 10 a.m. the German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies terminated its response. The ship arrived at Palmerton on Jan 3 at 4.15 p.m. At 9.35 p.m. it sailed again, bound to Port Said, ETA Jan 12.

Man seriously injured in accident died in Bruges

The man who crashed hard on the deck of the "Palmerton" off the coast of Zeebrugge died of his injuries. Another man who had ended up in the water has not yet recovered. The ship had been underway from Zeebrugge to France when the accident happened during repairs to the rescue boats on Nov 22 at 2:35 p.m. when a boat suddenly came loose. One crew member was pushed over board, the other crashed onto the deck and was seriously injured. He was transferred by helicopter to hospital in Bruges. Both victims were from Ukraine. The "Palmerton" had returned to Zeebrugge at 8 p.m. and was remaining at the local container terminal since.

Search operation for man who fell over board

Two crew members were lost over board from the "Palmerton" about eight kilometers off Zeebrugge on Nov 22, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. The two crew members took part in an exercise when they fell into the water. The emergency services were notified immediately and a helicopter was soon on scene. One man was airlifted to hospital. The other drifted off and could not be found immediately. At the height of buoy S8 an NH90 helicopter, a police boat and a lifeboat were deployed for an SAR operation. The water temperature was about 12 degrees C at present. At 6.45 p.m. the search was aborted without result. The "Palmerton" returned to Zeebrugge.
