Hurricane Milton affects cruise schedules
Carnival Cruise Line has announced significant delays to several ships in the fleet due to the approaching Hurricane Milton. The cruise line has already informed guests that a cruise on the 'Carnival Paradise' has been cancelled and that the ship, while not cancelled yet, would not be able to return to port on Oct 10, 2024. The arrival of the 'Carnival Valor' in Miami on Oct 10 would be delayed. The 'Carnival Sunrise' would not be returning to Miami as scheduled on Oct 10. The 'Carnival Glory' would not be returning to Port Canaveral on Oct 11. Passengers were assured on Oct 9 that they would be kept updated on the situation and provided with available options as soon as possible.
19 year old man facing up to five years in prison for bomb hoax
Joshua Darrell Lowe was indicted for an alleged bomb hoax on the 'Carnival Sunrise'. He was charged with making a false bomb threat, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan said on Sep 25, 2024. The cruise line received an email from Lowe in January stating that “someone might have a bomb” on the 'Carnival Sunrise', as it was on its way to Jamaica from Miami, Florida, The crew searched more than 1,000 cabins and notified the U.S. Coast Guard and authorities in Jamaica, receiving a Marine Police escort to port. Lowe, who is from Bailey, Michigan, faces up to five years in prison if convicted. The 19-year-old will also have to pay restitution for costs resulting from the hoax. Court documents did not list an attorney for Lowe. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating.
Cruise ship suffered flooding in bad weather
The 'Carnival Sunrise' faced undefined flooding on its way back to Miami from a five-day Caribbean cruise on MArch 23, 2024, at around 2 a.m. Cabins were flooed with two to four inches of water. Passengers were told to go to their muster station. The vessel had taken on water, as bad weather had impacted the route. The crew distributed bottled water and a small number of blankets to passengers who got off the ship shortly after 8 a.m. Some staterooms were taken out of service for the next departure as the Carnival team completed clean up and replaced carpet. Those guests who were not able to sail were provided full refunds, a future cruise credit and received overnight accommodations if they needed them.
