Offshore ship sank, crew safe
The 'Carmen' developed a list on Nov 20, 2020, at 4.25 a.m. near the Petrobras oil platform 'P-31' in the Albacora field in the Campos Basin. The 18 crew members abandoned ship into life rafts and were rescued by other shiips, one by the 'OP Coral', en route to Porto do Açu and the others by the 'SeaCor', en route to Rio de Janeiro. At 4.55 a.m. the 'Carmen', which had sailed from Niterói on Nov 15, sank at a water depth of 250 meters about 55 miles East of Cabo de São Tomé, Northeast of Rio de Janeiro. An oil spill was observed after the loss. The The 'Carmen', operated by the company OceanPact Geociência, was carrying out a bathymetric survey in the Campos Basin with a view to installing equipment to obtain oceanographic data at the time of the incident. The activity was authorized by the Brazilian Navy which has been informed of the ship loss.
