Yacht caused ferry to crash against bulkhead
On Sep 30, 2011, at 12.25 p.m. waves of two metres height created by the "Carinthia VII" on her way to the Luerssen Yard caused the Berne-Farge ferry to allide with the quay. The wave broke over the railing, the cargo deck was flooded and the ship slammed into the bulkhead. A truck on board nearly toppled over. A cyclist could not keep his balance and fell against the wheelhouse. The man suffered a leg injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. During the surveys it was found out in the afternoon that the deck structures of the ferry had shifted slightly. Whether the "Berne-Farge" was also damaged underneath the water line should be determined in the coming week at the Fassmer Shipyard. The police assumed that the heavily motorized yacht was traveling at excessive speed. The ship sailed with own crew and had a pilot on board.
