Coast Guard transports fishing captain to hospital
The Coast Guard says its Wilmington command center received a call about 8:45 p.m. Saturday from a 73-foot commercial fishing boat named Capt. Alex, reporting its captain was experiencing severe chest pains. The boat was about 6 miles east of Hatteras Inlet. A Jayhawk helicopter got to the boat about 10:15 p.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer. The captain was hoisted up to the helicopter in a rescue basket and flown to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Chief Warrant Officer Keith Moore says that despite the many challenges of hoisting at night, the crew safely removed the captain and delivered him to a hospital to receive the medical attention he needed.
