Thu Mar 17 10:14:54 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Capt. Thomas Paul" of the Coast Guard, along with state and local agencies, continued to respond to a fire on the Berry Lake Platform near Bayou Sorrel on Mar 16, 2016. Response crews extinguished the fire around 1 p.m., and remained on scene to monitor the situation. Thus far, there has been a minimum amount of pollution released and is expected to dissipate naturally. The Coast Guard Captain of the Port New Orleans established a safety zone around the incident site, while crews continue response efforts. Personnel at MSU Baton Rouge was notified on MAr 15 at 9:15 a.m., that an oil production platform in Bayou Sorrel caught fire while in the process of being dismantled. There were two people aboard the platform at the time of the explosion. There were no reported injuries.
