Barge on fire after collision
A section of the Intercoastal Waterway remains closed after a barge carrying about a million gallons of petroleum was engulfed in flames following a collision off Point Bolivar in the early morning of July 20, 2015. The Intercoastal Waterway was closed from marker 348 to the Houston Ship Channel. The collision happened near the the Intercoastal Waterway intersection with the Houston Ship Channel Traffic. The ship channel remained open following the collision. Each of the tugs had two barges in tow. They collided after the captain of the "Captain Shorty C" reported losing power around 1:30 a.m. His lead barge collided with one of those being towed by the tug "Jackie," filled with about one million gallons of highly flammable naphtha. It took salvage crews about hours to get the fire under control. It was not clear if the fire was fueled by the naphtha on board, or by diesel fuel. The fire was out after four hours at 5.25 a.m. Reports with photos and videos: Reports with photos and videos: https://www.dvidshub.net/image/2077664/coast-guard-responds-barge-collision#.Va3_WPnDHJU https://www.dvidshub.net/image/2078042/responders-prepare-move-damaged-barge-after-collision-intracoastal-waterway#.Va3-rvnDHJU http://kfdm.com/shared/news/top-stories/stories/kfdm_fire-breaks-out-after-barges-collide-houston-ship-channel-17245.shtml http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/barge-fire-houston-texas-while-carrying-1m-gallons-petroleum-n394921 http://abc13.com/home/barge-catches-fire-following-houston-ship-channel-collision-/865618/ http://www.houstonchronicle.com/neighborhood/bayarea/article/Barge-collision-fire-temporarily-closes-6395953.php
