CAP JERVIS 9484572

Mon Apr 04 23:21:35 CEST 2011 arnekiel

After a few delays the largest container ship to enter the Port of Napier ever finally arrived on Friday night. The 59,300-tonne Hamburg Sud vessel Cap Jervis had originally been scheduled to dock just after dawn on Friday but it remained at anchor in the stream until Friday evening. The ship's size, along with tides and conditions, is understood to have altered its schedule. Getting the giant vessel in and out of port proved no problem. It departed about 6pm Saturday.

As part of a customer event, Hamburg Süd christened the "Cap Jervis" in Callao (Peru) on Monday, 8 November 2010. She is the first container vessel ever to have been christened in Callao and has a slot capacity of 4,600 TEU. Sponsor of the "Cap Jervis" was Adelgunde Christmann, wife of Dr Albert Christmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of Radeberger Gruppe KG. The "Cap Jervis" was delivered in July 2010 at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) in Korea. Since then she has been deployed in Hamburg Süd's service between Asia and Mexico/South America West Coast (ASPA Service). The "Cap Jervis" is named after a location in South Australia, approximately 100 kilometres south of Adelaide.
