All grounded barges refloated
After the salvage of the Dutch flagged, self propelled container barge "Camaro", 2648 ts (EU-No.: 02317558) on Dec 21, the "Camaro I", 1887 ts (EU-No.: 02324415), and "Camaro IX", 1448 ts (EU-No.: 02331467), were refloated by the "Johanna" (IMO: 9372066) on Dec 22. Salvage work started at noon. The "Camaro2 was meanwhile moored at the pilings at Germersheim-Sondernheim, Rhine km 380,5. First the "Camaro IX" was refloated by the propeller force of the "Johanna II" (ENI: 2328248) and pulled broadside from the gravel bar by the "Johanna" (ENI: 2328144). The container barge "Azolla" (ENI: 02329306) then took over the "Camaro IX" and brought it two kilometers down stream. Then the "Johanna" and "Johanna II" connected to the "Camaro 1", and with the full engine force of the "Johanna" they turned around into the fairway. At 1.30 p.m. all barges were floating, and the "Azola" transported also the "Camaro 1" to Sondersheim where she was reconnected to the pushing unit.
Grounding on the Rhine
On Dec 20, 2015, around 6 a.m. the "Camaro", 2648 ts (EU-No.: 02317558) ran aground on the Rhine at Dettenheim, Karlsruhe municipality, with a cargo of 250 containers stored on the pushed barges "Camaro I", 1887 ts (EU-No.: 02324415), "Camaro X", 1448 ts (EU-No.: 02330957), and "Camaro IX", 1448 ts (EU-No.: 02331467). The front one on starboard side got stuck on the so-called Apothekergrund while the ship was sailing river downstream due to a navigational mistake of the master. While trying to get the barge off again, also the second one ran aground. Two attempts to refloat the vessel failed. Timewise the ship traffic near the Iffezheim lock was barred. The ship was to be refloated on Dec 21. Falling water levels complicated the work. The "Camaro" was then untied and berthed in Sondernheim with the "Camaro 1" and "Camaro IX" remaining aground.
