Coast Guard medevacs man from motor vessel off of Oahu
HONOLULU — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 37-year-old Filipino man experiencing severe abdominal pain while aboard the motor vessel Bunga Kasturi Enam, approximately 34 miles north of Oahu, Tuesday. At approximately 6 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point successfully hoisted the man and transported him to Queen’s Medical Center in stable condition. At 12:28 a.m., Friday, watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center received a relayed report from Coast Guard Pacific Area command that the motor vessel Bunga Kasturi Enam, had a crewmember aboard who was experiencing severe abdominal pain. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and recommended a medevac as soon as the motor vessel was close enough to shore for aircrews to conduct a hoist. “Great job by the watch teams at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in monitoring the developing serious situation of a crewmember aboard the Bunga Kasturi Enam,” said Lt. Zachary McCune, a pilot at Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point and one of two pilots for this case. “Thanks to their planning and coordination, Air Station Barbers Point was able to successfully hoist an ailing mariner and safely deliver him to a higher level of care at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.” http://coastguardnews.com/coast-guard-medevacs-man-from-motor-vessel-off-of-oahu/2016/08/02/
