Bow of wreck slashed the ramp

Tue Aug 07 18:36:04 CEST 2018 Timsen

Five months after its sinking, the wreck of the "Britannica Hav" is being deconstructed. The beginning of the construction took place on Aug 7, but there were some complications. The bow of the "Britannica Hav" slashed the ramp when the hull was pulled up with chains. Therefore additional maneuvers were needed to break the concrete on the ground and get the ship out of the water. The Norman company Gardet & de Bezenac was in charge of this project which should last two months. On Aug 7, at 2 p.m. the Gardet & Bezenac Recycling, a subsidiary of the Baudelet Environment group, will proceed to take the "Britannica Hav" out of the water in Le Havre where it was actually berthed in the parking bay of the company waiting to be dismantled. After being hoisted onto the ramp, the wreck will be gradually cut up. The workshould last two months. The company is one of four French and on the whole 18 European companies certified by the European Commission last December for the dismantling of EU vessels.
