Police launched investigation after grounding
The police have started a preliminary investigation into negligence in maritime traffic after the 'Brisen's grounding outside Sandhamn. The tanker had got stuck in the Farfarssvängen north of Sandön. The vessel did not have a pilot on board in a difficult to navigate area, and was carrying a cargo of bunker oil. It remained stationary in the port of Stockholm since Dec 1.
Tanker ran aground off Stockholm
On Nov 30, 2024, at 8.20 p.m. the 'Brisen', with nine crew members and a cargo of oil on board, ran aground outside Sandhamn in the Stockholm archipelago en route from Karlskrona into the port of Stockholm (Lat. 59.2990 Lng. 18.8932). The ship was refloated and anchored to investigate if there are damages to the hull. The Swedish Maritime Administration had launched a major rescue effort h,d and the Maritime Rescue Society, police and Coastguard were alerted. Three holes in the ballast tanks were found, but no spills reported. No one was injured in connection with the accident. The ship safely berthed in the Freeport of Stockholm on Dec 1 at noon.
